We have been visiting the 3rd grade classes throughout the Pennsbury school
district for over seven years giving floral demonstrations. During this class
each of the 3rd grade students were provided with guidance on how to design a
centerpiece by one of our designers & given the flowers & supplies needed to
make a flower arrangement. Each year the program has evolved from teaching one
class at one school to all the classes’ throughout the district. Last year we
integrated a floral design competition were the top students were selected from
each elementary school. These “Best in Class” students were then invited to an
evening design competition at Fallsington Elementary School. Family & friends
were encouraged to come and watch their children in creative action. Awards were
presented to each finalist as well as top awards for the top three students –
“Best in District”.
We are excited to be able to present a program such as this throughout the
district. We feel it a valuable learning experience for the students. We have
found that both boys & girls alike take this experience very seriously. Our
program exposes the students to a process that they may have never considered or
experienced before. The look & excitement on their faces while they are
“designing” their own arrangement is priceless.
The roots of our program date back many years ago. At that time, we had
greenhouses in Yardley, Pa. The greenhouses aka Martelli's Greenhouses -
students would visit the greenhouses & take a tour. The greenhouses have been
gone for some time now
........................................................................................................................................ To continue this tradition with the children of our community, we have take our
program directly to the schools & will continue this for many years to come!
